Therapeutic Horseback Riding

What is Adaptive (Therapeutic) Riding?

Adaptive Riding, otherwise known as Therapeutic Horseback Riding, is a riding lesson that is adapted to meet the individual needs of the rider. The goal in an adaptive riding lesson is to teach the rider how to ride the horse as independently as possible. In other words, in adaptive riding, the rider learns to influence the horse.  Adaptive riding lessons are conducted by instructors certified through The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH), who have additional training and knowledge in working with individuals with a variety of needs or abilities.

Our Veterans and clients learn the basics of being safe on horseback. We teach grooming, saddling and basic riding techniques. Once they acquire the basics we have fun on horseback with various challenges and games to build their riding skills. Many of our Veterans discover they enjoy the benefits (both physically and emotionally) of riding and spending quality time with the horses.
